Reunion Planning Committee Meeting September 9, 2010

The last Reunion Committee Planning Committee meeting will take place on September 9th, 6:30 pm, at Randy's home.

If you want a name tag button for the Main Event, your reservation and check need to be in Marilyn's hands prior to this meeting. If not, your name tag for the main event will most likely just be one of those sticky "My Name Is ..." labels. Or, bring one of your old reunion buttons with you.

Reunion Planning Committee Meeting August 19, 2010

Maybe this economy is worse than I thought. We have managed to keep the reunion fee the same as it has been for the last couple of reunions (that wasn't so easy when you consider inflation.) Still, $35 per person is noticeable to most of us. And that means we want to know what we're getting for our money.

So, for your money you get a hard copy of the memory book, you get a nice buffet dinner to eat at cloth covered tables, some token gifts, you get to see some of our former teachers in real life, you get to watch the golf outing awards being handed out, you get some Class Reunion information from Marilyn, you will enjoy our really special guest speaker, and then you can dance and chat the night away. So, that is what you are paying $35 for and quite frankly we think it a bargain. What we can not charge you for and not one of us -

and we have a class full of very successful people - can afford is the value added to our lives via interfacing and embracing (hugs are encouraged) Classmates from 45 years ago -- that is priceless!

So, just between us, I wanted to remind you that the Friday, September 24th night campfire night is free; the Saturday, September 25th, school tours are free; and the Sunday picnic is free. And, updating your memory book information is free except for the stamp to mail it in (e-mail works for me.)

Dan McLaughlin has selected the Rock Wood Golf course for the golf outing. It is pretty much the same course you played back in school days or shortly thereafter. So, what price can you put on nostolgia not to mention how much fun you have playing golf. At about $27 green fee - including cart, you will recognize this price as being quite reasonable. Thank you, Dan!

----- Main Event Program Saturday Night at Randy's Shoppe' -----

Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

***Around 6:50 p.m. Bob Bergin will introduce the attending Teachers

A little before 7:00 p.m. We are hoping Larry Binnicker will offer the Class Reunion Invocation and bless the food.

Buffet line opens at 7:00 p.m.

***Program begins about 8:15 p.m. or when folks finish eating - with Dan McLaughlin making the golf outing award presentations.

Marilyn Lewis Holsworth will follow with her once every five years state of the Classes diatribe.

Then Our super Very Special Reunion Guest Speaker will be introduced by Marilyn Holsworth.

***DJ and dancing begins at about 9:30 p.m. ends at 11:30 p.m.

*** NOTE: Our red revolving light and noisy sound will indicate that we need everyone's attention

We will also use the red revolving light during the DJ session to indicate group dances. We have five group dances picked out already (You might want to practice before you come.)

1. The Cupid Shuffle

2. The Bunny Hop

3. Hokey Pokey

4. The Electric Slide

5. YMCA

For the rest of the DJ session, we will do our best to average playing two slow dances to one fast dance.

The quiet room will be available for chit chatting throughout the entire evening. For dinner, we do ask that you eat at one of the tables - not the quiet room. Our DJ will keep the volume high enough to dance to and low enough folks can communicate or simply move to the quiet room to chat.

Reunion Planning Committee Meeting July 22, 2010

1. Marilyn mailed out over 500 45th Reunion Invitations within the last two weeks. Robbie Robinson was the first classmate to send in his paid reservation.

2. Bob Bergin is very close to inviting 35 teachers to our reunion. Here is a special note:

Any of Mrs. Cockefair's former students who would like to possibly spend some time with her on Saturday, September 25, 2010, in the early afternoon, please e-mail Bob Bergin -

bobz0847@yahoo.com.

3. Doris Clubb saved us a ton of printing money via linking us up with Robie Mathews. Doris has already requested the loan to us of enough chairs and tables to seat up to 250 classmates and significant others at our main event, Saturday, September 25, 2010.

4. There is some renewed interest in the Saturday morning golf outing - we had hoped it be all about friendship - re-bonding and fair competition. Nope. Yet another classmate wanting to put a whopping on Robbie Robinson. Does not seem fair - but Robbie is the guy to beat if you got the stuff to get the job done. Randy brought in one of those free Rockwood golf balls so the committee could see what the golfers will be getting on Saturday morning, September 25th.

Want to join in the fun? Contact Dan McLaughlin via the website.

Our 45th's activity schedule is set. Please check our website for details: www.williamchrismanhighschool.com/classes/1965/

The whole event will take place in a one-story level floor building. Steps won't be a problem. If you have special access needs - let us know now so we can do our best to accommodate you. If you choose to remain silent, please understand that we have asked repeatedly for this information so that we can show you the courtesy of consideration. Absent your letting a committee person know, the assumption is that you need no special access provisions. Smoking - by law - will be outside the building. Please keep oxygen tanks away from the smoking area. You may submit your special needs request or just ask questions by going to http://www.tmes.biz/williamchrisman/classes/1965/classmate_submittal_form.shtml. I will inform the committee of your needs. Please send this to me before April 23 - the next meeting.

Dates Set

As of January 22, 2010: The Classes of 65 45th Reunion will be held on the weekend of September 24, 25 and 26, 2010.

1st Planning Meeting Jan. 14, 2010

Target Date for the Classes of 65 45th reunion weekend is in the Fall around the first of October.

Friday night:

Based upon great success at the last reunion and the positive classmate feedback, Friday night will be a pot luck picnic at Marilyn's.

Saturday Morning: Dan McLaughlin is puting together a golf outing/tournament if classmates will participate.

Dan has retired from being the Blue Springs Athletic Director. To contact Dan and let him know you want to participate in the golf event - please call (816) 229-3052.

Saturday Late afternoon - early evening: There will be an attempt to tour the schools. Doris is looking into getting a school bus for the tour so that classmates can park at Randy's shop - take the bus to tour hopefully both Chrisman and Truman High Schools - then ride the bus back to Randy's for the evening events. Bus will result in a small fee, but the tour itself should be free.

Main event Saturday night:

While individual classmates may not be aware of the planning committee's long standing policy and actual implementation of cost controls to ensure that the Classes of 65 reunions are fun and affordable that policy is firmly in-place for the 45th reunion.

Considering the current economic crisis that many of us suffer from, Randy Halsey stepped up and offered his warehouse shop for the Saturday night main event. While the joint ain't blessed with glass chandeliers - Randy and Dawn threw one of the most outstanding halloween parties in Randy's shop in 2009. The area is enclosed, modern, and if you can't remember the giant jukebox on the stage of the Memorial Building last reunion - just know that Randy builds and displays backdrops and decorations for some of the fanciest places in the United States. He came into the planning meeting a little tired having just taken down the Crown Center Mayor's Christmas Tree and associated decorations (Randy has done that gig for nearly 30 years.) The halloween party was over the top and the committee expects nothing less at the Classes of 65's 45th Reunion.

Saturday night's event will be called a "Sock Hop" - this helps the girls who have a hankering to do so to dress in their best 50's stuff and those who are coming casual to fit in by rolling up their pant legs, and the fun just keeps on rolling along. My suggestion to make it a Hobo party received its just reward. Casual is the dress code of the evening, but if you are feeling vain - you can strut your stuff in some new rags.

The single reunion registration fee will include the Saturday dinner and any entertainment.

So that we can have music, Sat night will be a "Private Party" - i.e. only those we invite can attend. This is necessitated by the three music licensing entities who do not charge venues licensing fees for "Private Parties."

So that Randy is not liable for alcohol at his shop -- we will only be serving soft drinks. BYOB is optional.

We will be inviting teachers to our reunion. Bob Bergin has the lead - Randy is helping him. Dan McLaughlin is doing his thing to help us get teacher bio-sketches for the website.

Sunday picnic: Jimmy will reserve George Owens Park for the Sunday picnic. This may determine the date selected.

Memory Book: Marilyn has once again managed to get Janet Babylon Fain to do the memory book. How sweet that is. Thank you Janet!

------------ Next 45th Reunion Planning Meeting -----

The next 45th Reunion Planning Committee meeting is set for 6:30 pm on Thursday,February 18, 2010 at Randy's.
