WCHS/THS 45th Class Reunion Update August 2010

Hi, Classmate!

Maybe this economy is worse than I thought. We have managed to keep the reunion fee the same as it has been for the last couple of reunions (that wasn't so easy when you consider inflation.) Still, $35 per person is noticeable to most of us. And that means we want to know what we're getting for our money.

So, for your money you get a hard copy of the memory book, you get a nice buffet dinner to eat at cloth covered tables, some token gifts, you get to see some of our former teachers in real life, you get to watch the golf outing awards being handed out, you get some Class Reunion information from Marilyn, you will enjoy our really special guest speaker, and then you can dance and chat the night away. So, that is what you are paying $35 for and quite frankly we think it a bargain. What we can not charge you for and not one of us - and we have a class full of very successful people - can afford is the value added to our lives via interfacing and embracing (hugs are encouraged) Classmates from 45 years ago -- that is priceless!

So, just between us, I wanted to remind you that the Friday, September 24th night campfire night is free; the Saturday, September 25th, school tours are free; and the Sunday picnic is free. And, updating your memory book information is free except for the stamp to mail it in (e-mail works for me.)

Dan McLaughlin has selected the Rock Wood Golf course for the golf outing. It is pretty much the same course you played back in school days or shortly thereafter. So, what price can you put on nostolgia not to mention how much fun you have playing golf. At about $27 green fee - including cart, you will recognize this price as being quite reasonable. Thank you, Dan!

----- Main Event Program Saturday Night at Randy's Shoppe' -----

Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

***Around 6:50 p.m. Bob Bergin will introduce the attending Teachers

A little before 7:00 p.m. We are hoping Larry Binnicker will offer the Class Reunion Invocation and bless the food.

Buffet line opens at 7:00 p.m.

***Program begins about 8:15 p.m. or when folks finish eating - with Dan McLaughlin making the golf outing award presentations.

Marilyn Lewis Holsworth will follow with her once every five years state of the Classes diatribe.

Then Our super Very Special Reunion Guest Speaker will be introduced by Marilyn Holsworth.

***DJ and dancing begins at about 9:30 p.m. ends at 11:30 p.m.

*** NOTE: Our red revolving light and noisy sound will indicate that we need everyone's attention

We will also use the red revolving light during the DJ session to indicate group dances. We have five group dances picked out already (You might want to practice before you come.)

1. The Cupid Shuffle

2. The Bunny Hop

3. Hokey Pokey

4. The Electric Slide

5. YMCA

For the rest of the DJ session, we will do our best to average playing two slow dances to one fast dance.

The quiet room will be available for chit chatting throughout the entire evening. For dinner, we do ask that you eat at one of the tables - not the quiet room. Our DJ will keep the volume high enough to dance to and low enough folks can communicate or simply move to the quiet room to chat.

----- Correction For Bob Bergin's e-mail address ----

Any of Mrs. Cockefair's former students who would like to possibly spend some time with her on Saturday, September 25, 2010, in the early afternoon, please e-mail Bob Bergin -

bobz0847@yahoo.com. Sorry I messed up last e-mail. This one is correct for Bob's e-mail.

----- Ms. Beaman -----

From: bob bergin <bobz0847@yahoo.com>

Subject: add to prayer list, please

Date: Tuesday, August 17, 2010, 2:01 PM

Mrs Oneida Beaman Lorimer's husband is at Centerpoint Hospital, where Larry B is head chaplain and director of volunteers. She was calling to let me know they might not be able to come to the reunion night for teachers and was quite disappointed ("I am in perfect limbo"). I told her of our class's prayer group and her wishes are that she and her husband be added to it. Hopefully, Larry will see the name and recognize the last name. Otherewise, we do need to keep the family in our collective prayers. Thanks, Bob

----- Free Chiefs' Practice at Arrowhead -----

Before I forget - free parking, free entrance to the New Arrowhead stadium on August 25th, 6:00 pm. Tell anyone you like. Only free entrance this year. And, includes watching a practice. Great chance to see what 250 million dollars buys.

I have been told that there will be access to the Club Level, Field Level where the Hall of Honor is located on the south side. No locker room as this is an actual practice. No access to the penthouse suite and broadcasting suites. Most everything else you can see and see for free.

There will be Red Coaters around to assist you with directions. Hy-Vee Gate H will be doing a fan fest just like they will be for regular home games.

ELIZABETH EDWARDS

Elizabeth Edwards, 94, passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2010, in Florence, Ky. Sarah Elizabeth White was born to Irish immigrant parents Sam and Jennie (Kirkpatrick) White on Dec. 28, 1915, in Kansas City, Mo. She grew up in Fairmont, Mo., with brothers, Samuel and John White and graduated from Northeast's college preparatory program in 1932. She met the love of her life, Lloyd Edwards, while selling tickets at the roller rink the same year and on Sept. 21, 1932, she married him and credited Lloyd's parents with finishing raising her. Lloyd and Elizabeth had three sons, Robert, Daniel and twin, Richard, who lived for only 13 days. After raising her family, Elizabeth accompanied Lloyd on three major projects for Standard Oil; they spent a year in Australia, a year in Madras, India, and a year in Wales. They toured the world on the return home trips for the Australia and Wales trip and she continued to travel the world later in life. Elizabeth was a long time member and active volunteer from Sunday school teacher to Deacon at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Independence. She was also a Cub Scout Leader, member of the PTA and volunteer driver for the American Red Cross. Later, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and in the gift shop at the Independence Sanitarium for a number of years. Elizabeth was full of God given wisdom, not necessarily the wisdom of books but more the wisdom of life, families and relationships. She was an untrained nurse to three generations of her family and was eternally grateful for her good fortune and good health. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tease. She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, playing bridge with friends and a good cup of tea. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers and wives, John and Louise White and Sam and Elizabeth White, sons, Richard and Robert and daughters-in-law, Sylvia (Smith) and Julie (Williamson).
