This Quarter All-Classes of 1965 Activities

2. Truman v. Chrisman Football Game, Oct. 10, 2008 7:00 PM. This year we will just be sitting together. If you have your sign "What you were doing at the first ever Truman v. Chrisman game" from last year bring it with you. If you want us to bring you a blank sign - email me or call 816 461-9110. What we learned last year, those metal seats are chilly at best. Bring something to sit on.

3. POW WOW IV is scheduled for October 25, 2008, starts when you get there - late afternoon or shoot for 5:30 pm. Brisket is the meat of the meal. One hayride this year. Lots of time to chat with classmates. All are welcome to include your buds and other alumni. Must call ahead to RSVP at 816 699-2007. Use the information on our website to get there. Ron did not move, so location is the same as last year. This is an official Classes of 65 event, so yes there will be a donation hat set out on the food line. If you want to carpool - call Marilyn at 816 796-8995 or Jeannie at 816 836-2786.

4. If you have an idea for a Classes of 65 holiday event, now is the time to let Marilyn or one of the committee members know. If there are no suggestions - guess we will just pick a night and a bunch of us go to the Plaza and rent one of those big sleighs and enjoy the lights together. Donna Middleton Staley comment added to the draft newsletter, "That one sounds like fun to me!!!"

5. From: Jo Ann Roberts Jones (July 08)

My husband Bruce Jones (an orthopedic surgeon) and I just returned yesterday from another medical mission to Cajamarca, Peru, with the Peruvian American Medical Society. (There are several Peruvian doctors who practice at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, MO, where Bruce's office is. This is Bruce's fourth mission to Peru with this group and my second. It is a unique mission because it is entirely medical, and we ship and take medical equipment for a charity hospital to supply the doctors there with equipment that they can't get themselves and then go there to teach them how to use it. (No religious activities because there are Jews, Moslems, Catholics, Mormons, every variety of Protestants, as well as many who are not religious.) I worked in a government-run orphanage since I'm not a medical person and don't speak much Spanish. At this orphanage we gave the kids five new computers and set up a computer lab for them, painting the building, removing non-working plumbing, putting in frosted glass and curtains on the windows, reinforcing the security bars on the windows, installing new light fixtures, and giving them six DVD movies for their new computers (that all turned out to be pirated, I'm sure, but we didn't know that when we bought them in the market!) We had a party for the kids, where we let them "shop" for the donated clothes, toys, stuffed animals and two new pairs of jeans for each of the 53 kids there.

We also took them to a "new mall" near the orphanage, where they all got to see their first movie, "Kung Fu Panda" which was quite understandable even in Spanish for us. Every one of the kids also got to go to the dental clinic that was established during the week. Lots of extractions.

There were 120 of us on the mission, and the group did more surgeries of various kinds and saw more patients than are able to be helped in an entire year there.

My husband did the first hip replacement surgery ever done in Cajamarca and helped the local orthopods do four more during the week after he had showed them how to do it. All in all it was a really great experience. We're hoping to go back in two years. Bye for now.

6. From: Randy Halsey

First , --- Marilyn has been seen on a blind date ---you know what that leads to ... Now , ---both she and Jeannie have been observed hanging out with a very unsavory character in Lincoln , Nebraska . I fear for their reputations . . .

7. Hi Everyone!

Well... Mom and I are off for our holiday in Ireland today! We will get back on 10/12. Take care and I'll "chat" with you all again soon!

Love,
Adrienne Kaminsky (Pinky Baird's widow.)

8. Anita Petrovic and her family have downsized and are now living the good life. Larry can walk out the back door and fish is their pond. How sweet that is. Anita did give up her automatic dishwasher, but is enjoying life and grandkids to the fullest.

9. About Robby Robinson by Randy Halsey:

Long time director of virology at Burroughs- Welcome ( a veterinarian biologics company , located in Lincoln , Nebraska ) , Robby Robinson is retiring at the end of October . Dr. Robinson has distinguished himself by the aggregate consumption of sufficient enough quantity of malted beverage ( not milk shakes , Marilyn ) to have garnered the coveted Puter Chalice Award from a local Gay bar he frequents .
Yep , his own mug with his name inscribed on it , and (best of all ) they will fill it for half - price . Rumor has it that he will be dancing at the bar after his retirement.

Teachers:

11. On August 15, 2008, we lost Coach Snowden. To view his obituarty, please click on http://www.williamchrismanhighschool.com/teachers/snowden.shtml.

NOTE: If you know a teacher - please take a few minutes to sit down with them and get a little bit of a biographical sketch. Date born, where born, grade school, middle school, college, post graduate, where did and what did they teach, what did they do in retirement. That is just a start. When you get the information, please e-mail it to me. Thanks, Cecil.

Last Quarters' Outings

11. The Renaisance Festival was fun and we thank Terry Thacker for suggesting and taking the lead in setting it all up. Breakfast at Rosie's was a nice way to kick off the day. Thank you, Terry. Great job!

12. Even though the car races were rained out. Several of us had a nice dinner. We did not have one of car guys attend. So, maybe car racing needs to be replaced with a hot rod show like Terry Whittle runs most every year. We have all winter to think that one over.

For Jeannie and Grover Hall, thank you for putting the car races together for us. Lots of work just to have Mother Nature spoil the outing.

Your work was near perfect and we thank both of you for it.

That's all folks--
See you next quarter!
Cecil
