October 29, 2008 Special e-mail

Hi,[FULLNAME]!

We have lost another Classmate, Gayla Lynn Rose, 61, of Independence, Mo., went to be with the Lord October 7, 2008. A celebration of Gayla's life 10 a.m. Saturday, October 11, at Englewood Assembly of God Church, 10628 Winner Road, Independence. Donations to KU Breast Cancer Prevention Center, 3901 Rainbow, Mail Stop 3012, KC, KS 66160. Published in the Kansas City Star on 10/8/2008

From Class of 1964: Most of you here around Independence know that Don Downs has had radiation therapy and is now undergoing chemotherapy. I understand there will be no prognosis until that treatment is completed. His wife Sharon is Anna Player Jennings sister. Those at POW WOW IV signed a get well card to Don.
Sorry to report that Donnie Downs passed away couple weeks ago. It was in the paper.

POW WOW IV was a ton of fun. Ron broke with tradition of Indian stories and told one on Classmate Bob Wolfe. What follows would best be retold properly by Ron, but here goes as I thought it special enough to share.

Seems that Bob was weathering through a recent hurricane just sitting on his couch in the living room. Wind was pretty strong. The Texas home did not have a basement to seek safety. Bob first heard the roof shingles start to fly off the roof. Next came the sheeting followed by some rafters and of course rain - lots of rain. Bob was getting soaked in his own living room. For those that know Bob, they know that he loves his air conditioning. So, when Ron got through on the phone to check on Bob's situation, Bob confessed that he was most concerned about getting his air conditioning fixed first. So, Bob calls his A/C repairman first off and finds out that he is first in-line to get his A/C repaired. Bob asks the A/C guy if he knows a good roofer. A/C guy gives Bob a name and number - Bob calls. Yep, Bob is first on the list and in one-day Bob's A/C is working and he has a new roof. Way to go Bob. Bob confessed to Ron that it sure is strange what one misses in a crisis - Bob was instantly sick of wet sheets and sure was glad to get back into a nice dry bed. Want to catch up with Bob Wolfe? Ron McMillian has his current contact info.

Nobody stepped forward with a good idea for this year's Holiday get-together. So, we may well be stuck with renting a big sled and doing the Plaza. If you have a better idea - let Marilyn know.

Please - please - please, we need more people on our e-mail list. If you see a Classmate or are chatting with them - ask them to sign up. If you know their e-mail address, you can go to the website and type in their name and e-mail, click submit and they are sent an e-mail where they only have to confirm their desire to be on the list.

For those who no longer want to be on our e-mail list all you have to do is click on the following link: [UNSUBSCRIBE_LINK]

See ya,
